Cup romance is alive

25 January 2013

Danny Wilson is adamant that the Blades are capable of causing a cup shock at the weekend, but also revealed his admiration for what Reading have achieved in recent seasons.

Although United will be underdogs against the Royals, Wilson insists there is a firm belief behind the scenes at Shirecliffe that an upset could be on the cards.

Wilson said: "We expect ourselves to go and give a good account of ourselves. I don't know if we will be good enough on the day to win but it is a fantastic opportunity.

"We believe we can win the game, of course we do, but there has to be realism to that expectation. We are going to go to the Madejski and have a really good crack at Reading, we will give it everything.

"The game comes at a good time, it gives us another week to get players fit and we won't lose any points if we don't win the game.

"It will be a tough test but we have seen two massive upsets in the League Cup this week and have to believe the romance of the FA Cup will shine on us."

Speaking of his praise for Brian McDermott and co, the Blades chief concluded: "We face a Reading team that has just hit a purple patch in the Premiership and they are a terrific model for how to set up a club, on and off the field.

"It is a club many will try and emulate in time and I personally have great admiration for everything they do there."
