Danny Wilson is keen for Saturday's clash at Notts County to go ahead, despite a scheduled 1pm pitch inspection on Friday afternoon.
Certain areas of the playing at Meadow Lane are causing concern to the Magpies groundstaff and a referee from the Nottinghamshire area will conduct an inspection.
Although the game is in doubt, the Blades boss says his players want to play to get last Saturday's 2-0 home defeat to Yeovil Town out of their systems.
After the defeat to Gary Johnson's Glovers, Wilson spoke about the need for United to adapt to the conditions that are currently hampering their desired style of play.
Ahead of the weekend, he commented: "There aren't just two ways of playing, either short or direct, there are a lot of areas where we could adapt.
"It all depends on the playing surface, we will have to see what awaits us when we arrive at the ground.
"What I want from us is some flexibility in our approach because we didn't do that against Yeovil. We need to use what we have available to play to our strengths and that is my priority.
"The elements will need to be considered because you can't always fight them, so flexibility is vital to how we perform because we were very poor last week."
