Looking for home points

24 December 2013

Nigel Clough admits he is wary of Oldham Athletic, United's Boxing Day opponents at Bramall Lane.

Clough has recently witnessed, first hand, the Latics at their best, but has also noted their inconsistencies.

The Blades boss said: "Oldham have been up and down for much of the season to date.

"I saw them at Mansfield in the FA Cup and their second-half performance was excellent, but then they lost at home to Colchester on Saturday and Lee (Johnson) was bitterly disappointed.

"At the beginning of the season Derby faced them in the League Cup and Jose (Baxter) was on top form, so I am glad we have him at our disposal on Thursday."

Looking ahead, the Gaffer added: "It won't be an easy game, but one we should be looking to win.

"Before the Stevenage game I said I wanted us to be unbeaten in the next four games, winning at least two, so a win on Boxing Day would set us up nicely for Sunday's clash with Tranmere Rovers.

"Both Oldham and Tranmere are around us in the table, so picking up points against rivals make these matches doubly important."
