Boss looks for character

18 December 2013

Nigel Clough has revealed he won't panic buy in January, admitting plenty of planning will go into the recruitment of any possible new addition.

'Character' tops Clough and his staff's wishlist, the United boss remarked: "The biggest thing for me is always a player's character. That's something I like to find out a lot about, a major factor when we are looking to sign a player.

"We always endeavour to watch every single player we want to sign and if all of us, as a staff, give them a 'tick', then the answer is usually a 'yes'. January is a funny transfer window, I find you get better value for money in the summer but we will see what happens."

United have picked up 11 points from Clough's seven league games in charge and the Blades boss is encouraged with the progress currently being made:

"If we can do that for the next ten or eleven games, then we'll be halfway up the league. Situations like beating Swindon, seeing victory through, breeds confidence and it tests our resolve.

"We can gather a lot of belief from situations like facing Swindon and Leyton Orient. It was largely about getting the confidence back into the players, now, it's about keeping it going."
