Once again this year Sheffield United are saddened to hear that another of our former players has passed on to a higher league - this time our former player Cliff Mason.
Cliff began his career at Sunderland but made his Football League debut with Darlington in 1952.
Signed by Reg Freeman initially as cover for Graham Shaw, Cliff was a classy player who went on to make 118 appearances scoring three goals in the process. He left us for Leeds in 1962 and finished with a spell at Chesterfield.
Cliff stayed in the Sheffield area where he ran several successful businesses for many years and was always a welcome face at player reunions down the years - all at the Blades send their sincere condolences to his family and friends.
