United's U18s took the bragging rights on Saturday as two goals from Otis Khan paved the way for a 2-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday at Middlewood Road.
The midfielder scored either side of half-time to cap an impressive all round team display, much to the delight of Coach, Travis Binnion:
"It was a well deserved victory; we enjoyed lots of possession, were patient on the ball and scored two well worked goals.
"We saw two very different styles of play on show. Our lads showed great maturity and we certainly improved on the Leeds performance.
"Wednesday offered a real physicality, but we had worked hard in training to combat their threat and the lads executed the gameplan brilliantly."
United started the game positively, moving the ball across the pitch well, but just lacking that bit of tempo and sharpness in the final third.
Wednesday defended deeply and the Blades were restricted to a couple of routine long-range efforts as the opening exchanges passed without too much incident.
After repelling a brief spell of Owls pressure from set-pieces, the Blades took the lead in the 40th minute from the penalty spot. Kedman was upended as he entered the penalty area and KHAN confidently tucked the ball home from the resulting spot-kick.
United began the second-half in a dominate manner and duly doubled the lead after 55 minutes. Excellent build-up play down the right freed Paling and his pinpoint cross left KHAN the simply task of heading home from 10 yards.
The visitors pressed for a third as the game entered the latter stages with Coustrain and Lewin missing good opportunities to further the lead.
Wednesday went direct in a bid to find a goal, but a flurry of set-pieces came to nothing, as the Blades registered a deserved three points.
Blades: Eastwood, Paling, Kedman, Reed, Whiteman, Evans, Wright (Cheeseman 61), Dimaio, Cockerline, Khan (Lewin 72), Coustrain.
