George Long is optimistic of United's chances when they tackle Brentford at Griffin Park on Saturday.
Looking ahead to the clash in the capital, Long, who has been called up into the England U21 squad for next week's friendly with Scotland at Bramall Lane, remarked: "The opening night win over Notts County was impressive and although we were bitterly disappointed to lose in midweek, I am sure we will bounce back.
"We had two good games with Brentford last season, especially the one at Bramall Lane, which was action-packed to say the least.
"Saturday will give us a really good indication of where we are at the moment, because a lot of people are tipping Brentford to be amongst the frontrunners again this time around. It will be a good test and hopefully we can impose our style of play on to them early on."
On his call-up to the England U21 squad, Long concluded: "It is a massive honour and the call-up came totally out of the blue.
"It was a humbling experience, getting told of my call-up, and subsequently you are contacted with all the travel arrangements etc.
"It is the next level up from the U20s and it will be another fantastic experience for me personally, linking up with the best young players in the country, under the watchful eye of Roy Hodgson."
