England's U21s produced a thrilling display to comprehensively beat their Scottish counterparts in front of a crowd touching 27,000 at Bramall Lane on Tuesday evening.
With Roy Hodgson on the sidelines, England's youngsters dominated from start-to-finish, a display that culminated with four goals in the second-half, with all six goals coming from different players.
England gave the vocal home crowd a goal to cheer as early as the third minute. Shelvey collected the ball in his own half and his pinpoint through in behind the Scotland defence found the advancing REDMOND who confidently lifted the ball over the oncoming Archer.
The home side continued to dominate and Hughes should have capitalised after good work by Sterling, but the Derby County midfielder fired wide from inside the penalty area.
Scotland's first sight of goal came in the 33rd minute. Butland flapped at a corner from the left and Robertson headed wide when well positioned after Armstrong had fired the ball towards goal.
At the other end Wickham replied by firing wide from Redmond's lay-off.
England doubled their lead in the 38th minute, STERLING had the freedom of the penalty area to convert from Redmond's defence splitting pass.
Roy Hodgson was forced into a change on the stroke of half-time, when Barkley replaced the injured Chalobah, who left the field on a stretcher.
Within five minutes of the restart, England increased their lead in comical fashion. Archer sprinted to the edge of his box to distribute the ball, only for his throw to deflect into the path of WICKHAM who calmly lobbed the loose ball into the unguarded net.
Moments later England made it four. BARKLEY robbed Bannigan on the edge of the Scotland box and after linking up with Wickham, the substitute slotted the ball under the body of Archer.
Less than 60 seconds later it was five, Wickham was fouled when advancing forward, but referee Makkelie allowed SHELVEY to play on and the Swansea man curled home a delightful effort into the top corner from 25 yards.
On the hour England racked up the half dozen as CARROLL applied the finishing touch to Redmond's cutback, after the Norwich flyer has advanced past three defenders to the byline.
