All at Sheffield United were saddened to hear earlier today (Tuesday 6 August) that former player Malcolm Barrass had passed away.
Signed by Joe Mercer in 1956 from Bolton Wanderers, he was capped by three times by England and featured for the Trotters in the famous 1953 FA Cup Final, or 'Matthews' final as it became known.
Malcolm was brought in to add height and power to the defence that Mercer thought was lacking, replacing Joe Shaw. It was the prompt, however, that Joe needed and despite being regarded by all as a great player Malcolm made a total of just 21 full appearances before Joe won his place back
A great professional - our thoughts and condolences are with his family and friends at this sad time.
