Danny Wilson says Shaun Miller has a big role to play this season.
The striker, signed from Crewe Alexandra in the summer, but has yet to start a game in League One for the Blades.
Miller didn't feature in the matchday 18 at Hartlepool United on Tuesday, but completed 71 minutes of the U21 fixture with Nottingham Forest at Bramall Lane on Monday.
Commenting on the progress of the 24-year-old, the Gaffer said: "Shaun is very much in our thinking; we have got plenty of strikers at the club because we think we are going to need them and are determined not to get caught short this season, like we did last.
"When we signed Shaun I said he was one for the future, he has come to Sheffield United where we have a blend of established players and youngsters like himself eager to do well and it is simply a case of him further learning his trade.
"When we put him in the team he won't let anybody down. He is a terrific finisher and is edging ever nearer to getting the call to play."
