Danny Wilson has reiterated his desire to retain the services of Dave Kitson beyond the striker's current deal, which ends at the end of 2012.
Kitson has netted three goals in six starts since signing a short term deal at Bramall Lane at the end of the August.
The striker has made no secret of his aim to move to America and play in the MLS, but the Gaffer remains hopeful of him still being a Blade at the end of the current campaign.
Wilson said: "We hope Dave will stay with us for the rest of the season and beyond. This isn't just a footballing decision though; Dave has to consider his family and the lifestyle they want. The move must be right for him, whether that be America or elsewhere.
"We will see what happens but we would love him to stay here because he has brought so much to the squad.
"Dave has a wealth of experience and he has also brought some finesse to the team, on occasions. The longer he stays with us the better we will become. He is a big asset to us at the moment, but we aren't hiding from the fact he could be moving on in January.
"I don't know what his situation is with a possible move to America but he seems to be enjoying life here, we are certainly happy to have him on board. Dave has a dry sense of humour and he has hit it off with the lads from day one."
