Danny Wilson paid tribute to his players after seeing them grind out a hard fought victory over Portsmouth in front of the live Sky cameras on Monday night.
For the second match running at Bramall Lane a Nick Blackman penalty in front of the Kop secures the spoils for United, but the Blades were made to work hard for the win by a resurgent Portsmouth outfit that impressed Wilson.
The Gaffer commented: "It was a very tough contest. Portsmouth have some very good players and at times they played some great football.
"In pockets we played some terrific stuff too, but it was two promising teams who I believe will both be challenging at the end of the season.
"Michael (Appleton) has assembled a team quickly and after seeing that it goes to show things can only get better from their perspective.
"Looking at our own performance, we have dug out another great result.
"The defender committed himself when perhaps he shouldn't for the penalty and ultimately that was the difference again.
"It was another fantastic spot kick from Nick (Blackman) but overall it was a very even game and we are delighted to have registered another three points."
The win lifted the Blades to second in League One, behind Tranmere Rovers only on goal difference, but Wilson insists there is still a lot of hardwork ahead.
He added: "We have been very consistent to date and ground out a number of results in tough fixtures.
"To be up at the top of the table at this moment in time is fantastic but nothing is won or lost in October."
