Six goal win in first tour match
Danny Wilson used the full compliment of.players available to him as the Blades began their tour of Malta with a comfortable victory over the Zejtun Corinthians. Joe Ironside opened the scoring early on as Wilson's team eased to a routine 6-0 victory at Ta'Qali.
Ironside pounced from close range after two minutes following a scramble in the Corinthians penalty box, the referee deliberated before awarding the goal on say so of his assistant. The Blades did not have to wait long for second with Neill Collins smashing one home from inside the penalty area just seven minutes later.
Kevin McDonald, who impressed before being replaced at the interval, set in motion the chain of events which saw Erik Tonne make it three midway through the first-half. Trialist right back Mike Mumpaye latched onto the former Scotland under-21 international's pass and raced down the flank before whipping in a delicious cross, Corinthians failed to clear and Tonne was was on hand to convert at the far post.
Wilson introduced five substitutes for the start of the second half and one of those, Nick Montgomery, hit the frame of Ranier Farrugia's goal with fierce right foot effort.
Stephen Quinn found the back of the net on after 57 minutes when he fired low into the bottom right hand corner after Jordan Chapell, who had only come on moments earlier, delivered the cross.
Harry Maguire saw an effort hacked off the line by a Corinthians defender as the Blades continued to press with John Cofie also going close with an acrobatic volley.
Matthew Pisani turned the ball into his own net after 79 minutes as the home side found the going increasingly tough. Cofie completed the scoring when after a great solo run he slotted past the onrushing Farrugia in the 81st minute to keep the score ticking over.
Both teams received a warm round of applause from the travelling army of Blades fans as they made their way off the pitch, but not before Cofie had tried his luck again right on the whistle. Corinthians breathed a sigh of relief when his shot fizzed past the post.
