Boss reflects after friendly stalemate
Danny Wilson was pleased with what the Blades achieved in their first pre-season friendly of the season on Wednesday night.
United drew 1-1 against Ilkeston at the New Manor Ground with Harry Maguire on target for the Blades in the second-half before his older brother, Joe, equalised for the home side moments before the final whistle.
Afterwards the Blades boss said: "The game was everything we needed, a competitive game and a test. We aren't interested in how we play as individuals, it is just about getting minutes in everyone's legs.
"We were a little ring rusty, but you expect that in your first game. Credit to Ilkeston, they played in the right spirit and gave us a tough examination.
"We knew what Ilkeston would be about, they have some good players who play with a lot of enthusiam and pushed us all the way."
Wilson fielded a team mixed with youth and experience, including three tralists, and the boss reserved a special word for their efforts:
"It was important to have a look at the trialists and some of the younger boys, that's why we left some of the senior lads out on this occasion.
"Elliott Whitehouse did very well and he has got great potential. All the young lads need to learn the pace of first-team football and they will also gain experience playing alongside senior team-mates."
