Boss delighted with new additions

31 July 2012

Danny Wilson is delighted to have completed a triple swoop on the eve of the Blades returning to pre-season action at Rotherham United on Tuesday.

Wilson, who secured the services of Kevin McDonald whilst in Malta last week, added defenders Matt Hill and Tony McMahon to his squad, in addition to promising Crewe Alexandra striker Shaun Miller on Monday afternoon.

The trio have all penned two-year deals, although there is an option of a third for Miller.

The Blades boss started talking about his three new recruits by commenting on the return to Bramall Lane of Hill:

"Matt brings a wealth of experience and he is reliable and consistent in his defensive duties. He also offers a calming influence on the back four and offers us great versatility."

On Miller, Wilson commented: "We have watched Shaun quite a bit, especially the early part of last season at Crewe and we felt his potential was there to be seen, despite getting put in the shadows of Nick Powell.

"He is young enough to improve and hopefully he will fit straight into the first-team, but we certainly feel he is one for the future.

"Shaun is sharp and plays on the shoulder of the defender. Importantly he is a natural goalscorer and he has good pace too."

Of McMahon, the Gaffer concluded: "Tony is still young enough but he is vastly experienced. He has played around 200 games in the Premiership and Championship so we know what we are getting.

"He is a good communicator and offers us versatility, which is important to us, but I see him vying with Darryl Westlake for the right-back berth."
