Danny Wilson says preparations for Saturday's League One clash with Tranmere Rovers have been hampered because of the freezing temperatures currently gripping the country.
The Blades boss said: "We haven't been able to do anything on the training pitch today (Thursday). In these icy conditions there is very little you can do in preparation for the weekend.
"We have had a light session in the gym, but hopefully on Friday, with the predicated warmer temperatures and later start to training, we will get some vital grass time."
The Gaffer has also revealed that two key players are nearing a return to competitive action, whilst another two should come into contention early in 2013.
Wilson expanded: "We will aim to give Tony (McMahon) and Dave (Kitson) a good workout on Friday, but it is unlikely they will be 100 per cent fit come Saturday.
"At least they are progressing well, though, and the same goes for Lecsinel (Jean-Francois) and Mark (Howard), although they need games and it is going to be the New Year before they are considered."
