Danny Wilson has confirmed that the Blades are actively looking to add to the playing squad in the forthcoming transfer window.
United have this week been linked with a move for Motherwell's Jamie Murphy and Wilson admitted he is just one player his staff has identified as a possible signing.
Wilson commented: "We are looking at a lot of players and have made contact with Motherwell regarding Jamie.
"But as we speak we aren't close to striking a deal because ultimately it comes down to self financing. I am not prepared to comment any further as that would be disrespectful to Motherwell and Stuart (McCall).
"If possible we will progress in January. It is the type of market we are looking at."
On the areas he is looking to recruit, the Blades boss added: "I have spoken before about signing players to play in the wide areas and nothing has changed.
"I will always be looking for strikers because you need goals to be successful and like everyone we want that bit more creativity from midfield.
"We are identifying plenty of players, but of course we will have to shuffle the pack in the window to bring new players in."
