Danny Wilson says it is no secret that the Blades need more goals from midfield this season.
Only David McAlister and Ryan Flynn, with two goals each, have scored from United's engine room this term and Wilson says his other midfielders are acutely aware of what is required.
The Gaffer commented: "We need more goals from midfield, Michael (Doyle) and Kevin (McDonald) amongst others know the importance of scoring goals and it is an aspect we must address.
"Sometimes they might have to be more adventurous and believe in their ability more because we believe they both have the ability in their locker to score more often.
"I have spoken at length with Kevin, if he isn't scoring goals; he needs to be making them, to put an end product to his good work.
"We don't want a player of Kevin's ability simply getting on the ball and making nothing happen, I could still do that myself, even at my age!
"The pair owe it to themselves to get on the scoresheet more because they are both top quality players."
Talking of McAllister, Wilson praised the Irishman for his efforts this season to date: "David has a knack of scoring goals from midfield. He read the situation very well at Coventry and deservedly got his reward.
"He has been so versatile for us, he isn't a moaner, he just gets on with his job when selected and gives it his all.
"The lad has never let anyone down and his attitude is impeccable."
