Under 18s 2-0 Hull - report

Del Geary's under 18s got their season off to the perfect start with a 2-0 win at home to Hull City at the Sheffield United Academy.

A goal in both halves from striker William Osula ultimately did the damage, but in truth the Blades could and should have been well clear after hitting the woodwork three times.

With a new look to the side, Geary handed debuts to four players who had signed scholars this summer, while three more new faces came off the bench.

It was left-back Thomas Angell who went closest early on when his header was pushed away, before Osula flicked wide a cross from the impressive Luther Williams.

It didn't take long for the hosts to get their reward as Hassan Ayari played in Osula, the striker finishing calmly into the bottom corner for his and the team's first of the season.

The visitors hit the crossbar with a rare attack soon after before United set about controlling the game, with Osula seeing a low effort saved and Angell once again getting forward well from left-back but firing wide.

United then managed to hit the woodwork three times in the opening 15 minutes of the second half. First, Osula smashed an effort against the crossbar and then did the same against the post, before Louie Marsh's header also came back off the crossbar.

But with just over ten minutes to go Osula sealed things, once again linking up with Ayari, a well-timed run allowing him to round the goalkeeper and make it 2-0.

Hull did have a golden chance to get one back in the final minutes when they were awarded a penalty, but Josh Chapman got down low to keep his clean sheet intact and avoid a nervy couple of minutes.

Blades: Chapman, Seriki, Angell, L. Williams, Grant, Anderson, Maguire, Arblaster, Osula (Slater 87), Marsh (Smith 65), Ayari (Bailey-Green 82).
Unused: Hampshaw, Cullinan.
