Leeds 2-4 Under 18s - report

Sheffield United's Under 18s recorded their third successive league win at Leeds United as their season starts to take off after going winless in their opening three games.

Off the back of last week's win at home to Hull City, the Blades were clinical and deserved the three points against a solid Leeds team.

United took control of possession early on but the only big chance came when the lively Angelo Cappello beat his marker but fired wide of the near post inside three minutes.

It took some time for the game to settle but when it did it was the visitors who started to take control. The opener came just before the 20-minute mark when Zak Brunt fired his first of the morning into the bottom corner from a free-kick.

But the Blades didn't have the lead for long. A rare Leeds attack ended in Stuart McKinstry firing into the corner after some good hold up play from Cole Gibbon.

Del Geary's side maintained a good tempo though and continued to grow into the game, coming close to retaking the lead when Sam Ackroyd saw an effort cleared off the line before Brunt volleyed the rebound wide.

Minutes later though they did retake their lead and it was in bizarre fashion. Brunt crossed a ball into Leo Gaxha but the ball ran through and appeared to take goalkeeper Cooper Skerry by surprise, bouncing up off his chest and into the back of the net.

It gave United the lead going into the break but they had Sam Kelly to thank shortly after the break when he got down well to push away an almost certain Leeds goal.

It proved more vital still 10 minutes later when Ackroyd pounced on a loose back pass, rounded Skerry and made it 3-1 to the young Blades.

But once again Leeds bounced back immediately when Gibbon went from provider to scorer, heading home a deep cross at the back post.

Six minutes of stoppage time looked to make for a nervy finale until substitute Daniel Jebbison beat Skerry to a 50-50 and had the simple task of rolling the ball home into an empty net for his first under 18s goal to seal the three points for the Blades.

Blades: S. Kelly, J. Kelly, Foulstone (Jebbison 76), Neal, To. Williams, Gomis, Gaxha, Maguire (Osula 90+4), Ackroyd (Viggars 83), Brunt, Cappello.
Subs: Chapman, Anderson.
