Two goals from striker Daniel Jebbison within 12 minutes of coming on turned the game on its head in front of the Bramall Lane crowd, meaning the Blades now face a home game against Fulham when the competition kicks off again in the new year.

It should never have been as nervy as it was given the hosts dominated large spells of the game, but the visitors defended well and were always a danger on the counter attack.

The Blades largely dominated the opening exchanges, moving the ball well and forcing a succession of corners without ever really testing Matthew Cox in goal.

After 20 minutes of dominance, the game settled as AFC Wimbledon enjoyed a few half chances on the break, but United saw two big chances come and go as first Sam Ackroyd just couldn't stretch to get on the end of Leo Gaxha's cross before Nickseon Gomis headed Zak Brunt's dinked cross over the bar.

Andre Brooks was introduced for the injured Frankie Maguire at the break as United looked to keep up the momentum, but it was the visitors who struck first just inside the hour mark when Dylan Adjei-Hersey tapped home after Sam Kelly had pushed away an initial effort.

It left the Blades with a mountain to climb and only half an hour in which to do it, but the introduction of Jebbison soon after changed the game.

Just two minutes after coming on, the striker's first touch saw him sweep home a great cross from the right from Brunt to level the scores at 1-1.

With momentum now back behind the hosts, Jebbison doubled his tally with ten minutes to go, running onto Brooks's dinked ball over the top and slamming home via the hands of the goalkeeper.

With five added minutes to come, the Blades managed the game well, keeping possession for the majority of the extra time added and seeing the game out to book their spot in the fourth round.

Blades: S. Kelly, To. Williams, Boyes, Neal, Gordon, Gomis, J. Kelly, Maguire, Ackroyd (Jebbison 68), Brunt, Gaxha (Hackford 89).
Unused: Chapman, Cullinan, Viggars, Seriki.
