U18s 1-0 Burnley - report

15 September 2018

United's Under 18s recorded an impressive win over Burnley thanks to a stunner from captain Harrison Neal just before the hour mark.

The Blades played good football throughout and defended as a unit towards the end under pressure from the visitors, but the one goal was enough for Derek Geary's side to get the three points.

An entertaining encounter saw both sides create chances without overly testing either goalkeeper. Sam Ackroyd fired an effort in from range which was comfortable for Harry Allen.

Burnley's best chance came after 25 minutes when a dipping effort from Rhys Fenlon hit both the bar and post and bounced and bounced away to safety, much to United's relief.

United thought they'd scored themselves when a Tom Weaver shot from distance deflected and looked to have crossed the line but the linesman's flag ended any protests.

After the break the hosts kept the pressure up and took the lead immediately after strong appeals for a penalty.

Brilliant footwork from Sammy Ompreon saw the winger, who was in top form, brought down inside the box but the referee signalled only for a corner.

Fortunately for United, the corner was played out to Neal who stepped forward and arrowed an effort into the top corner from outside of the box to give the Blades a deserved lead.

United should have doubled their lead with 15 to go when more good work from Ompreon did eventually yield a penalty. Ompreon himself stepped up only to see his low effort saved by Allen.

Allen then denied substitute Leo Gaxha who found himself one on one with the goalkeeper before some resolute defending in the closing minutes ended with United walking away with the win.

Blades: Dewhurst, Williams, Weaver, Belehouan, Foulstone, Neal, Broadbent, J. Kelly (Viggars 90), Brunt, Ompreon, Ackroyd (Gaxha 73).
Unused: S. Kelly, Clarke, Maguire.
