United's Under 18s were denied a hard-fought win against league leaders Sheffield Wednesday as a last-minute Liam Shaw goal cancelled out Jean Belehouan's strike with 15 minutes to go.
It was a heart-breaking finale to what had been a pulsating encounter befitting of a local derby game.
But it was the hosts who started the game much the better side as United's only chance of any kind in the first 25 minutes came from Zak Brunt from long range.
At the other end Marcus Dewhurst had to be alert on several occasions to keep the game at 0-0, saving first from Shaw before tipping wide a curling effort from Jordan O'Brien.
There was a major let-off shortly after when Conor Grant hit the post, then hit the same post with the rebound on the third attempt saw his effort blocked by Kyron Gordon.
But after riding out the early storm United started to control the match towards half-time and could have taken the lead first when Jake Kelly sliced an effort wide and secondly when a goalmouth scramble couldn't be converted.
The Blades really started to assert themselves in the second half and Josh Render had to be alert to push away Brunt's low effort before George Broadbent fired agonisingly wide.
In an end-to-end encounter, hearts were in mouths when O'Brien's curling effort was deflected over Dewhurst but it dropped just past the far post.
With 15 minutes to go United took the lead. A corner eventually fell to Brunt who was once again denied by Render but Belehouan was there to bundle home the rebound to put the Blades in the lead.
But just as the game moved into stoppage time Wednesday equalised in cruel fashion. Dewhurst had initially got down well to save an effort from outside the box, the ball hit Gordon, looped up and an attempted clearance hit Shaw and landed in the back of the net to make it 1-1.
Wednesday could have gone on and won it when Grant fired wide in the dying seconds but in the end United walked away with a point.
