Under 18s 4-1 Leeds - report

United's Under 18s recorded an impressive 4-1 win over Yorkshire rivals Leeds United in a feisty encounter at the Steelphalt Academy.

Goals from centre-back duo Kyron Gordon and Jean Belehouan, as well as a strike from Jake Young and an own goal ensured Nicklas Haugland's equaliser in the first half meant little in the end.

United started on the front foot and took only six minutes to take the lead when Gordon rose highest to send a powerful header past that left Harry Christy with no chance from George Broadbent's corner.

But United fell into a sloppy period after securing the lead. Sam Kelly, who had an excellent match, denied Niall Huggins in a one-v-one situation before Haugland was left with an easy tap-in just seconds after striking the bar when Belehouan was caught on the ball in defence.

The imposing centre-back made up for his error just over five minutes later though. A free-kick into the box caused chaos in the Leeds defence, and whilst the Leeds players wanted a free-kick when Van Zanderfleit went up with Christy, the ball fell to Belehouan who hooked home.

Zak Brunt soon enough almost made it three as he saw an effort deflected wide before United did take control of the game thanks to Young's third.

Good football down the right allowed Tom Williams to break into the box, Christy only parrying his cross straight to the feet of Young who smashed the ball home.

The hosts did have a little let-off when Mason Rubie's wayward cross struck the crossbar before Kelly pulled off a sensational point-blank save to tip the ball onto the crossbar and preserve the 3-1 advantage.

The game was put to bed with 20 minutes to go when another set-piece was Leeds' undoing, captain Ollie Casey heading past his own keeper to make it 4-1 to the Blades.

The afternoon got worse for Casey just minutes after when he was shown a straight red card for a rash challenge on Leo Gaxha, luckily the Blades winger walked away relatively unharmed but Leeds were reduced to 10 men.

There were chances for five as the game became stretched and Leeds hit the woodwork a third time in stoppage time but it was a convincing win for the Blades in the end.

Blades: S. Kelly, Williams, Gordon (Weaver 70), Belehouan, Boyes, Gaxha, Van Zanderfleit (J. Kelly 57), Neal, Broadbent, Brunt, Young (Ackroyd 73).
Unused: Greaves, Potts.
