United's U18s picked up three points over Coventry City, but had to do it the hard way after Simeon Oure was dismissed early on.
Goals in either half from Isaac Hutchinson and Sam Ackroyd gave the Blades a much deserved victory at the Steelphalt Academy.
The aforementioned red card came on just eight minutes when an off the ball incident between Oure and a Coventry defender saw the French forward given his marching orders.
United weren't phased by a numerical disadvantage though and pushed on as if they had the extra man with Potts forcing a good save with a half volley.
This spell of pressure would pay off with 27 minutes played as Kane linked up well with Broadbent on the right and produced a low cross into the centre for HUTCHINSON to slot low into the corner.
The lead would only last 10 minutes though as Gordon was caught in possession and City pounced playing a square ball for a simple close range finish to restore parity.
After the interval United would again come out looking the hungrier of the two sides with Hutchinson striking the post after a great run.
The deserved winner would come for the Blades with 77 minutes on the clock as Hutchinson drove down to the byline and cut back for Kane who saw his shot saved only for substitute ACKROYD to smash home the rebound to give United all three points.
