United's youngsters came out second best against Barnsley on Saturday.
The final score at Shirecliffe was harsh on the young Blades though, with the Tykes scoring three times late on.
The hosts started on the front foot but struggled to create anything clear cut with Broadbent firing a shot over and Parkhouse having a header saved, the highlights of the opening 15 minutes.
But on 18 minutes the deadlock was broken as a through ball cut open the United backline and Dewhurst was unable to keep the ball out of the net.
The United stopper would make a handful of great saves throughout the game starting with a save low down with his right leg.
Derek Geary's side pushed for an equaliser towards the end of the first half and almost found one as Lawrence turned smartly inside the box only to see his effort well saved.
In the second period Dewhurst was called into action again this time to save from seven yards which seemed destined for the top corner.
Barnsley doubled their lead on 74 minutes and added a third in the 82nd minute.
As the Blades went searching for a consolation in added time Barnsley countered with pace to add a fourth.
