United's under 23s once again fought back to take a point in an entertaining end-to-end encounter at home to Barnsley.
Iliman Ndiaye's emphatic header 15 minutes from time was the least Paul Heckingbottom's side deserved for a performance which saw plenty of chances come and go.
It took less than five minutes for the first opportunity to present itself when Antwoine Hackford burst beyond the Barnsley defence but saw his low cross cut out, before Ndiaye and then Tom Williams both tested the Barnsley keeper.
Midfield duo George Broadbent and Frankie Maguire were also denied before the first half was out, but Jordan Amissah had to be alert minutes before the break to push over an effort from range.
United came out for the second half the way they'd ended the first, but fell behind against the run of play 10 minutes into the half when Michael Bahre curled home a superb effort from the edge of the box to give the Blades work to do.
The chances continued to arrive but a combination of a sturdy Barnsley defence and some wayward final balls continued to frustrate United, that was until the 75th minute when Ndiaye rose highest to head home Angelo Cappello's cross from the left.
Both sides went searching for a winner and United came closest deep into stoppage time when Cappello's in-swinging free-kick somehow evaded every Blades player and was pushed away by the goalkeeper.
Despite not finding the winner, lead head coach Heckingbottom was pleased by another positive performance.
"A good performance and a really competitive game against a strong Barnsley side. We've played against two teams with league experience in their side, so it's been good for our players to test themselves against those players.
"It's another game we've had to come from behind but we deserved a point. Getting into the lead would help us but we're trying to develop them, develop them as footballers and develop their mentality and the pleasing thing in both games has been that commitment and work rate."
