Forest 1-0 Under 23s - report

Sheffield United Under 23s fell to another narrow defeat against league leaders Nottingham Forest despite having much the better of the second half.

It took the Blades some time to hit their rhythm as the hosts enjoyed plenty of possession during the opening 45 minutes without overly testing Jordan Amissah.

Both sides looked to counter quickly during the first 20 minutes but there were few chances for either side until David Parkhouse fired in an effort which was pushed behind for a corner.

Forest began to assert their dominance as the game approached half-time and missed several good chances as first Virgil Gomis fired wide before Brennan Johnson missed the target with a header right in front of goal.

The clincher came right on half-time as Forest broke from a Blades free-kick. A cross into the box was only cleared as far as Rezart Rama who fired home a stunner from outside the box.

United responded well after the break and played some good football which eventually led to some good chances.

George Broadbent and Parkhouse saw efforts go wide before the best chance fell to substitute Reece York with just over 15 minutes to go.

Some neat interplay opened Forest up and allowed York to break through the defence, but his effort fell agonisingly wide after beating the goalkeeper.

A free-kick deep into stoppage time sadly brought nothing as the hosts held on for the three points.

Blades: Amissah, To. Williams, Boyes, Belehouan, Hall, Gomis, Brunt, Broadbent, Trialist (Greaves 49), Parkhouse, Gribbin (York 63).
Unused: S. Kelly, Ompreon, J. Kelly.
