Burnley 2-0 Under 23s - report

Sheffield United's Under 23s fell to defeat against Burnley as goals in either half from Rob Harker and Bobby Thomas sealed the hosts the points.

Until the opening goal on 20 minutes, the Blades were more than in the game, playing good football and getting the ball into wide areas without ever creating too many meaningful chances.

Reece York did bundle the ball into the net but the referee blew for a foul on the goalkeeper, with Burnley taking the lead just a minute later.

Jordan Amissah made a really good save down low to push away Tucker's effort, but Harker was on hand to tap home the rebound.

United looked to respond as Callum Gribbin volleyed an effort over the bar, but the hosts could have doubled their lead had it not been for Harrison Foulstone's goal line clearance right on half-time.

The Blades came closest to levelling things 10 minutes after the break when Iliman Ndiaye fired straight at the Burnley keeper from inside the box, before the game got scrappy through a series of bookings and stoppages.

It was the hosts though who capitalised when a free-kick was headed home at the back post by Thomas to put the game beyond the Blades.

Foulstone went close to a goal when his effort was brilliantly tipped past the post to add to United's frustrations, before substitute Sammy Ompreon was tripped when through on goal, leading to a straight red card for Oliver Younger.

Oliver Greaves' free-kick was subsequently well saved and Burnley saw the game out for the three points.

Blades: Amissah, York, Foulstone, Trialist, Grant, Hall, Doherty, Broadbent, Parkhouse (Ompreon 77), Gribbin (Young 57), Ndiaye (Greaves 67).
Unused subs: S. Kelly, Andall-Gibbons.
