U23s 2-2 Forest - report

United's Under 23s pulled off a valiant comeback to continue their good run in the league after two goals from Daniel Lafferty and Jordan Hallam brought the Blades back from a 2-0 half-time deficit.

As well as a start for Lafferty, Paul Coutts and Martin Cranie both played again and both got 90 minutes under their belts as they work their way towards a return to first team action.

Nottingham Forest were largely dominant in a first half where the Blades really never got going. Arvin Appiah served a notice of his intent by firing an effort wide within the first 90 seconds as Forest's pace in attack caused endless issues for United.

Just before the 15-minute mark, centre-back Anel Ahmedhodzic had an effort ruled out after he was adjudged to have been offside when Jake Eastwood saved Brennan Johnson's free-kick.

But within a minute the visitors did have the lead when striker Virgil Gomis got on the end of a neat through ball from Toby Edser and slotted coolly beyond Eastwood.

Shortly after it was a 2-0 and looking like a long afternoon for the young Blades. Gomis this time turned provider, reversing the ball into Johnson who curled an effort into the bottom corner.

Whatever was said at the break had the desired effect as United came out like a different team after the break.

Cranie could possibly have done better with a header from Hallam's whipped in free-kick before Tom Greaves saw an effort saved.

With 20 minutes to go it was still looking like a fruitless afternoon for United until a neat bit of play led to Lafferty slotting the ball home with the outside of his left foot from the edge of the box.

United had their tails up and the game ebbed and flowed from end to end until ten minutes from time when Hallam equalised with some help from substitute Simeon Oure.

Hallam cut in from the left and unleashed a curling effort which looked to be heading for the top corner even before it caught Oure on the back of the head on the way in, but Hallam claimed the spoils to take what in the end was a well-earned point.

Blades: Eastwood, Cranie, Cantrill (Sheppeard 54), Coutts, Doherty, York, Bennett, Greaves, Parkhouse (Oure 67), Hallam, Lafferty.
Unused: Amissah, Gordon, Boyes.
