United's Under 23s got their Premier League Youth Cup campaign off to the perfect start with a comfortable 3-1 victory at home to Blackburn Rovers.
Goals in quick succession in the first half from Jordan Hallam and Oliver Greaves put the Blades in control before Simeon Oure scored his second of the week just after the hour mark.
Rovers pulled a goal back with 15 minutes to go but United were relatively in control of the match despite some heavy late pressure from the visitors.
There was little goalmouth action to speak of until Hallam put United ahead after 20 minutes, the conditions proving difficult for both teams and only a couple of long range efforts for either without troubling the goalkeepers.
It was Greaves and Hallam who combined for the opener, the former playing in the striker who did the rest by lifting a cool finish over the on-rushing Charlie Albinson.
Almost as soon as it was 1-0, it was 2-0. A well-worked corner saw the ball pulled to Greaves on the edge of the box and his shot found the bottom corner. It may have taken a touch on its way through but it was Greaves who wheeled away to celebrate.
The second half started in similar fashion to the first with neither side able to create any meaningful chances, only Harry Boyes having a half chance when he hit an effort straight at Albinson from outside the box.
But soon after it was 3-0 when Oure turned his man neatly and slotted a calm finish into the bottom corner of the net to put the game to bed.
Oure could have had a second when he fired over with Jordan Hallam possibly in a better position to score and Blackburn did pull a goal back when substitute Jalil Saadi hammered home from close range when the ball broke kindly for him at the back post.
