It was a disappointing day for United's Under 23s as they lost 3-0 to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
Coming off the back of a draw at Hull City on Friday night, the Blades started well and dominated the opening 15 minutes but were punished after not putting their chances away.
Inside the first three minutes, Jake Young first saw a shot cleared just in front goal from Harry Sheppeard's pull back before the returning Oliver Greaves tested the Palace goalkeeper.
Sheppeard was a constant threat down the right hand side of the pitch but Blades couldn't make the most of their good play.
Palace started to grow into the game soon after and Sam Kelly had to be alert to make a couple of saves as the pressure built.
It told when Kian Flanagan's free-kick came back off the bar and was eventually bundled home by James Daly inside the six-yard box.
The biggest blow came when Palace doubled their lead on the verge of half-time, almost putting the game beyond United's reach.
A square ball across the field was intercepted and crossed into the box for Daly to head home his second of the game.
Flanagan continued to cause issues after the break and Palace's third came when he struck the crossbar, only for the ball to be put back into the box and headed home by Levi Lumeka.
Palace hit the woodwork again before the match was complete while Sheppeard went close with a powerful effort at the other, but the three points went to the hosts.
