United's Under 23s were denied a hard-fought win by a late Hull penalty after several second half chances came and went on a tough pitch at the East Riding Football Association.
It took less than 10 minutes for the Blades to take the lead. Some neat football down the right led to Josh Hesson putting the ball into his own net from Jake Bennett's cross.
From there on the game turned into a niggly encounter with the pitch proving difficult for the players and several bookings for fouls as Hull tried to break up the play.
Both sides have chances before the break but they were limited. Jake Young saw an effort from outside the box saved before Sam Kelly - making his first start for the Under 23s - did well to get a hand on the ball as Matty Argent-Barnes tried to round the Blades goalkeeper.
United were more at home in the second half and missed several chances which would come back to hurt them before full-time.
Reece York headed wide from a corner before both Harry Sheppeard and George Wilson cut in from the right and saw efforts saved and deflected behind for a corner respectively.
Young fired over before Harry Boyes was denied and with three minutes to go United were made to pay for their wastefulness.
A handball inside the box as Hull pushed for an equaliser was spotted by the referee and Elliot Holmes stepped up and sent Kelly the wrong way.
There was also an Under 23s debut for teenager Frankie Maguire in the final minutes but United couldn't find the time to respond but still walked away with a point.
