United's U23s returned to winning ways on Monday, with Jordan Hallam and Tyler Smith netting the goals against Barnsley at Stocksbridge.
Hallam gave the Blades the lead at Bracken Moor, only for Louis Rowe to responded for the Tykes, but Smith's second-half strike provide decisive in this South Yorkshire derby.
United nearly opened the scoring in just the fourth minute, but Walton produced an excellent save to deny Parkhouse from Gilmour's inswinging corner. And the Northern Irish U21 international came close again on the quarter hour, but his effort from a Norrington-Davies cross was inches too high.
Parkhouse was causing the visitors all kinds of problems, but again he found Walton at his best from a volley from Bennett's centre. But
United's pressure did pay off in the 40th minute, with Norrington-Davies marauding from inside his own half before slipping in HALLAM who fired into the far corner.
The Blades joy was shorted lived though, as Barnsley levelled with the last kick of the half. Mallan did well down the left before cross for ROWE to turn home against the run of play.
United were quickly out of the blocks upon the restart, with Hallam firing over from Smith's through ball. But in the 62nd SMITH went from provider to finisher, flicking home a cross from the impressive Norrington-Davies to put the hosts back in the ascendency.
In the final ten minutes, Graham was denied with a header and then from the resulting corner the defender header against the crossbar.
Right at the death, Barnsley thought they had snatched an unlikely point, only for Eastwood to pull off a magnificent save to turn a goal bound header on to the crossbar.
