U23s 1-2 Forest - report

27 November 2017

United's U23s were narrowly beaten by Nottingham Forest on Monday afternoon.

Despite a goal from Tyler Smith, efforts from Toby Edser and Lewis Walters saw the visitors claim all three points at a soggy Bracken Moor.

The first opportunity of the game fell the way of the visitors as a good ball into the middle was met by Gomes, who fired over after 6 minutes.

Just 10 minutes later United would look to get in front as a Broadbent corner was met by Parkhouse, but from close range the forward couldn't direct his header goalwards.

Forest's Gomes was proving to be a threat as he met a cross from the left but Eastwood was on hand to keep the scores level with a low save.

On the half hour mark Forest had a great chance to take the lead as Preston made a purposeful run down the left and cut back to Walters who fired over the bar from inside the area.

Shortly after Forest came forward again with Walters being played through and firing across the face of goal from a tight angle.

As the break approached both teams would look to find an opener and the Blades had a good chance with trialist Parfitt-Williams firing over after a knock down from a Broadbent corner.

Nine minutes after the interval United had a golden chance as Smith beat his man down the left and cut back for Parkhouse but he fired over from close range.

A few moments later the Blades came even closer as a Parfitt-Williams free-kick cannoned off the bar from 19 yards and Forest cleared to safety.

The deadlock was broken on 66 minutes as Gomes held up the ball and played a through ball into EDSER who slotted under Eastwood to give the visitors the advantage.

With 15 minutes left on the clock the Blades restored parity, from a Gilmour free kick Emitov fumbled and SMITH was jogging on the spot to tap home.

But parity only lasted a minute before Forest were back ahead as a shot from range was saved by Eastwood but WALTERS was there to put home the rebound.

The final meaningful action of the game saw Doherty fire a free kick just over the bar as the Blades slipped to defeat.

Blades: Eastwood, Hawkes (Potts 78), Norrington-Davies, Doherty, Graham (Weaver 61), Cantrill, Gilmour, Broadbent, Smith, Parfitt-Williams (Belehouan 69), Parkhouse.
Unused: Warhurst, Ompreon.
