Huddersfield 2-4 U23s - report

4 December 2017

United's U23s registered a deserved success against Huddersfield at PPG Canalside on Monday.

Oliver Greaves opened the scoring, before a brace from Tyler Smith and a fourth from Nathan Thomas rounded off an impressive afternoon's work for the Blades, with Eastwood, Heneghan and Lavery all playing 90 minutes.

The Blades started in the best possible fashion as a Lavery strike was well saved but GREAVES was on hand to tuck the rebound home after just two minutes.

On 28 minutes United doubled the advantage as a free-kick from Thomas dropped kindly for SMITH who made no mistake.

United kept the attacking mentality and came close to a third on 36 minutes as Thomas drove forward and decided to shoot rather than laying off Lavery and forced the home stopper into a good low save.

But the third goal would come for the Blades just three minutes later as a great cross from Norrington-Davies found SMITH who had the simple task of tapping home from close range for his second.

Huddersfield would claw one goal back before the break as a free kick from Booty was turned into his own net by the unfortunate Norrington-Davies.

Both teams had chances after the break, with Eastwood denying Boyle and skipper Heneghan seeing his header saved by Ryan.

Eastwood would be called into action again with 63 minutes on the clock, getting down smartly to deny Tear.

The three-goal advantage would be restored with 25 minutes left, as United countered from a Huddersfield corner and Thomas drove forward at pace across the length of the pitch and finished into the bottom corner.

The opposition didn't go down without a fight though as Booty's pass found TEAR in the area and he beat Eastwood, but it was nothing more than a consolation for the Terriers.

Blades: Eastwood, Greaves (Doherty 28), Norrington-Davies, Graham, Heneghan, Cantrill, Gilmour, Slater (Broadbent 65), Lavery, Thomas (Hawkes 80), Smith.
Unused: Warhurst, Parkhouse.
