Sheffield United Women were knocked out of the Women's FA Cup at the fourth round stage by FA WSL side Birmingham City.

The former winners and recently 2017 finalists scored two goals in quick succession before the hour mark to put the game out of sight before adding a third in stoppage time.

The Blades never really hit their stride but despite that kept their top tier opponents at bay for almost an hour and ensured debutant goalkeeper Emily Ramsey had little to do.

Carla Ward's side were lively in the opening exchanges and looked to break forward when possible but were unable to create any meaningful chances.

Birmingham were restricted to only half chances themselves until they started to get more of a grip on proceedings after the break.

It was a short corner that did for the Blades after 55 minutes when Harriet Scott rise highest to head home a cross from the right.

The visitors gained momentum and Ramsey had to be alert to tip away a lobbed effort from England international Lucy Staniforth, before Staniforth fired home via the crossbar to make it two just minutes after the opener.

It put the game pretty much beyond the Blades who just couldn't muster up the chances they needed despite plenty of possession.

The game was finished off in stoppage time and it was Scott once again who got on the end of a cross to head home her second and Birmingham's third.

Blades: Ramsey, Barker, Little, Hartley, Pennock, Cusack, Wilkinson, Paul (Sarri 59), Dixon, Fergusson (Lord-Mears 59), Green.
Unused subs: Batty, Johnson.
