TNS 2-2 United Ladies - report

14 May 2018

United Ladies' penultimate game of the season was described by manager Carla Ward as a fantastic advert for the league as the two sides shared the points after a fine match.

This despite sweltering conditions, the game was actually played on TNS' alternate venue in the village of Llanymynech just over the Welsh border. United started the day in second place with TNS fourth but were without key players Nat Shaw and Hollie Barker for the trip.

United had the better of the first half, keeping a high tempo. Tania Marsden was denied early on and Georgia Stevens fired one shot just wide. The early pressure told, though, when a Jorden Spurr free-kick was flighted in for central defender Nat Froggatt to score a great improvised goal with a back-heel that went over the TNS 'keeper.

TNS struck the United woodwork from a 30-yard drive but otherwise the Blades had the better of the half, going in 1-0 up at the break.

However, United were slow to get going in the second half and two errors at the back enabled TNS to go 2-1 ahead around the hour mark, through Anderson and Morris. United were able to equalise when Marsden used her strength to blast in for 2-2. The Blades pushed for a winner, Sophie Bell's late shot being well saved before time ran out and the game ended all square.

United drop to third in the table with Burton winning and that's likely to be how they will finish with the final day of the season this Sunday. United visit bottom of the league Leicester City Ladies to complete what's been a good season back in this higher level.

Blades: Houldsworth, Brown, Froggatt, Marshall, Robinson, Bell, Spurr, Hartley, Hickerman, Stevens, Marsden.
Subs: Pearson, Beanland, Kenyon.
