Sheffield United's Under 18s bounced back from FA Youth Cup disappointment in the best possible fashion after a crazy encounter with Leeds United.

Despite plenty of chances and plenty of pressure, it took an 88th minute goal from substitute Hassan Ayari to finally seal the seven-goal thriller.

Given their dominance, the Blades will have wondered how they trailed at half-time, but two goals conceded in the first 12 minutes through some sloppy play was disappointing after making a good start to the match in terms of general play.

It took just 18 seconds for the visitors to take the lead when a ball into the box found Kumwenda who managed to squeeze the ball past Kelly to give Leeds the perfect start.

The Blades responded though and it was ex-Leeds man Connor Leak-Blunt who equalised just five minutes later through a well hit left-footed effort from the edge of the box.

The hosts began to dominate possession but fell behind again when Thurnton had too much space inside the box to fire home a nod down from a free-kick.

A crazy opening 20 minutes continued when the Blades were awarded a penalty for a push on Theo Williams, but Sam Ackroyd saw his effort pushed behind for a corner.

Harrison Neal saw an effort saved before Ryan Viggars fired wide after some lovely skill, but the hosts were undone again when Kelly got under a ball upfield, allowing McMillan to run through unmarked and slot home to put Leeds back in front.

Harry Boyes and Frankie Maguire both saw penalty appeals turned away before the break, but United came out fighting again after the break and it was Boyes who equalised for a third time when he hammered home a superb effort from outside the box.

Ayari went close to a winner earlier than he eventually found it as he hit the post and saw an effort saved within minutes of coming on, while both Ackroyd and Viggars saw good chances go a miss.

Leak-Blunt went closer still with 15 minutes to go as the goalkeeper somehow clawed away his low effort, but the Blades weren't to be denied as Ayari fired home Ackroyd's cross from close range with minutes to spare to seal the points.

Blades: S. Kelly, Th. Williams, Gomis, Neal, Gordon, Cullinan (To. Williams 46), Leak-Blunt, Maguire (Ayari 62), Ackroyd, Viggars (Jebbison 89), Boyes.
Unused subs: Hampshaw, Gaxha.
