After a long wait for a home match in 2019, United’s Under 18s kick-started their first home game of the year in style with a 3-1 victory against to Bolton.
United came out of the blocks flying and wasted several good chances before Harrison Foulstone put the team ahead with a great goal.
A poor kick out from Matthew Alexander fell to the left-back who took a touch and lobbed the goalkeeper from distance to make it 1-0.
Sam Ackroyd, whose movement and effort up front was superb all afternoon, did everything but score and missed a couple of chances to extend the lead as the Blades largely dominated the opening 45 minutes.
It was 2-0 though with 25 minutes gone when a corner from the left was eventually bundled home at point-blank range by Jak Stainrod.
The second half started in similar fashion as United once again threatened a third but saw their wastefulness punished when Bolton pulled a goal back on the hour mark.
Kyron Gordon, Jake Kelly and Leo Gaxha were all introduced and it was the latter duo who combined to seal the three points for United.
Really good work from Kelly down the right gave him the room to pull the ball back for Gaxha, the striker neatly turning his man and firing low into the corner with his left foot.
Both sides had chances in the final 15 minutes or so but there were no more goals as the Blades ran out winners and were good value for their three points.
