Development midfielder Jordan Doherty has taken the unusual step of a loan move to the Tampa Bay Rowdies.
The Rowdies are managed by former Blade Neill Collins and play in the USL Championship, in the second tier of the American soccer pyramid.
The 18-year-old will remain at the Al Lang Stadium until November.
Republic of Ireland youth international Doherty has displayed versatility and reliability during his time in United's SteelPhalt Academy.
Doherty impressed for the U18s last season, both in midfield and defensive roles and has gone on to regularly captain the U23s this campaign.
