United's second string made it back-to-back victories in the totesport.com league for the first time this season with a well-deserved 2-0 success against Macclesfield Town at Sheffield FC.
A dominant second-half display was capped with goals from Nathaniel Foster and Jordan Chappell, although in truth the Blades could have had a few more as they comfortably moved off the bottom of the table.
Estonian goalkeeper Mihkel Aksalu looked assured on his competitive debut for the club, whilst trialists Bryan Hughes and Tyrone Berry both completed ninety minutes.
The start of the game was scrappy which set the tone for the first period, although Aksalu was called into action twice to deny Mukendi and Wilson. At the other end Foster and Slew both fired wide when well-placed.
Macclesfield looked the most likely to break the deadlock as United struggled to gain any real rhythm. Aksalu made a smart save from Beckett, before turning away a powerful effort from France.
With Darlow on the sidelines receiving some attention to a head injury the Silkmen came even closer to breaking the deadlock. Roberts, Beckett and France linked up well down the right, but Mukendi's toe poke went inches wide with Aksalu beaten.
Pomares dropped into the back four as Darlow was replaced by Williams at the interval and United's positive start to the second period was rewarded in the 49th minute. Slew squared up his marker before putting the ball across the six yard box where FOSTER applied the finishing touch despite being under pressure from Lowe.
Chappell then stung the palms of Veiga as the hosts seized complete control and Berry could have done better when scuffing his shot wide from the edge of the area. Slew was the next to come close to extending the lead but headed over from Chappell's pinpoint cross.
Aksalu had now taken a watching brief as Veiga was at his best to turn away a rasping drive from Hughes, but the goalkeeper was powerless as United made it two in the 64th minute. Williams fed the ball into the feet of Foster who turned and released Slew, his shot cannoning off the post and landing at the feet of CHAPPELL who couldn't miss from two yards.
The Town defence were struggling to cope with the movement of Foster and the striker should have made it three moments later. Slew and Hughes had further attempts to extend the lead but the game never looked in doubt as the Blades ran out worthy winners.
Coach Mark Smith was encouraged with the second-half display and feels his young squad are beginning to build up some momentum:
"The game was certainly a case of two-halves. In the first we weren't quite at it, but after half-time we came out and were positive. We looked dangerous going forward and confident on the ball.
"The lads showed good composure at times and it is a real boost to get consecutive wins since we retuned to action."
