Praise for Blades fans

Posted on: Mon 02 Aug 2010

Estudiantes' assistant manger Guillermo Trama paid tribute to the Blades' hospitality, staff and fans following the friendly on Sunday afternoon.

Although his young team were beaten by the only goal of the game in the closing stages, Trama was adamant that the whole trip had been an eye-opener for the Argentineans:

"We would definitely like to do something again and we have learnt a lot, not least how to treat people because it was very noticeable to us all just how helpful Kevin Blackwell and the staff at Bramall Lane and the Academy were - they really looked after us.

"And after the game the players were talking in the dressing room about how much the crowd applauded them after the match - they were amazed to get that in a foreign country."

Matt Lowton's 85th minute goal separated the teams when a penalty shoot-out looked inevitable to decide which team would lift the Alex Sabella trophy, and Trama felt that the result could have gone either way:

"It was a very even and tight game and although we created chances, in contests like that one mistake can cost you the vital goal.

"But the players worked hard, gave 100% and I was very happy with them. It was a great lesson for them playing this kind of game and although we managed the ball well, United played a more straightforward style which we are not used to."
