Gaffer's verdict - unbelievable

Posted on: Tue 03 Nov 2009

Kevin Blackwell was almost at a loss to explain just how the Blades had lost against Newcastle after creating so many opportunities:

"I suppose that's life I'm afraid, because I thought we were magnificent tonight. To lose like that just about sums up how things have gone for us recently.

"It was a foul on Kyle Walker but it wasn't given and then the shot hits Chris Morgan and wrong foots Ian Bennett for the only goal.

"I can't criticise the lads because they played so well and I am very proud of them. 'Benno' hardly had a save to make but everything that can go wrong for us is going wrong."

The damage to Kyle Walker - following a tackle from Kevin Nolan which left the defender in a heap whilst the goal was scored - added to the incredible number of injuries that have decimated the squad:

"Kyle has damaged ankle ligaments and he could be out for up to six weeks - that's eleven serious injuries this season so far and I have never had anything like it in my career.

"But I am hoping that by the end of the month we could have seven senior players back."
