Have you ever considered helping those in need or saving lives? NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) is asking United supporters to come along and donate blood at the Club in September.
NHSBT attended the annual SUFC Open Day with their mascot 'Billy Blood Drop' in August to encourage SUFC players and supporters to give blood at a blood donor session at Bramall Lane coming up in September.
Holly Mason, Lead Donor Relations Manager said; "We are reminding blood donors in Sheffield not to forget to donate before they go away on holiday. A constant supply of blood is needed all year round, and with the restrictions on donating after travelling to certain parts of the world, donors are being encouraged to give blood ahead of their holidays. NHSBT would like to thank all donors for their continuing generosity, but would like to now appeal to those SUFC supporters who are thinking about becoming a donor - there's no better time than now."
Donated blood is used not only in emergency situations, but also for patients undergoing surgery and receiving treatment for cancer and blood diseases, such as leukaemia. Currently 7,000 units of blood are needed everyday to in hospitals across England and North Wales.
The next session at SUFC is on Wednesday 28th September 2011 from 11.45am-2.30pm and 4pm-7.30pm and welcomes new and existing donors.
Anyone aged between 17-65, weighing more than 50 kg (7 stone 12lbs) and in general good health could potentially start saving lives by becoming a blood donor. There is no upper age limit for donors who have donated in the last two years. To book an appointment call 0300 123 23 23 or visit www.blood.co.uk
