Sheffield United have announced an exciting range of discounted 'Football in the Sun' travel packages featured on www.alpinemalta.net/SUFC that will enable supporters, families and students to combine a summer holiday with the Blades pre-season tour of Malta (12th-17th July 2010).

More than 400 United supporters attended last year's Blades summer visit to Malta. The 2010 tour will once again provide fans with a fantastic trip, combining the delights of Malta with an opportunity to get closer to the team.

The Blades 'Football in the Sun' line-up currently includes a supporters forum hosted by United Manager Kevin Blackwell (limited places available), a beach BBQ attended by the players, a Blades training session open to the public and a Sheffield United pre-season game that will take place on Malta's sister island, Gozo.

While Kevin Blackwell's squad undergoes an intense training programme on the island, the travelling support will have the chance to visit its many attractions. Malta's 7,000 years of colourful history has created a wealth of wonderful beaches, quaint fishing villages, historic temples and stunning architecture. By contrast the lively nightlife offers a taste of the island's modern day lifestyle.

Kevin Blackwell said: "We are already looking forward to it and it will be good going back to a 'known quantity' for such an important part of our preparation. The island - and our sponsor - looked after us very well last year and I know that the fans who went also appreciated everything that was put on for us all."

Through Sheffield United's travel partner, Alpine Sterling, a range of discounted deals are now available at www.alpinemalta.net/SUFC

The site offers a wide selection of reduced-rates for hotel accommodation and supporter activities. Prices for a 5 night stay on a bed and breakfast basis at the Alexandra Hotel (inclusive of return airport transfers) work out at just £113 per person, if guests share a twin or double room.

Discount rates for accommodation are valid for a period longer than the team's tour, should holidaymakers wish to extend their stay up to a 14 night holiday. Flights are not included in the discounted package deals, however, the website does provide direct links to all the leading airlines that operate in Malta.

Mike Farnan, the Sheffield United Executive Director overseeing the club's visit to Malta, said: "The feedback from Blades fans after last year's tour of Malta was fantastic. We're hoping their experience will encourage a large contingency of supporters to attend this year's event.

"This is a unique opportunity to combine a visit to the heart of the Mediterranean with a series of Blades-themed activities taking place on the island."

Anyone booking a Blades 'Football in the Sun' trip via Alpine Sterling will qualify for a free 'Blades on Tour' t-shirt. For more information on the Mediterranean hotspot go to www.visitMalta.com
