Staying power the key for United duo

Posted on: Wed 20 May 2009

Two die hard Blades with an eye on Wembley are hailing Sheffield's newest four star hotel as their good luck charm on the road to the Premiership.

Fan Mark Cordock, 41, and his partner Melanie Forder, 42, have stayed at the city's Copthorne Hotel for almost every Sheffield United home game since it opened earlier this season, making the most of its unique position on the doorstep of the club's Bramall Lane stadium.

The Nottingham couple, who are disabled, stayed at the hotel for the Blades' heroic semi final win over Preston last week, even meeting Sheffield United PLC chairman Kevin McCabe.

Now the dedicated duo have set their hearts on returning to Sheffield to watch their beloved red and white wizards...but in the Premiership elite next season.

Mark said: "We have both followed football all our lives, but only became true match-going Blades in the last few years. We soon fell in love with the club and have been addicted ever since.

"It's such a friendly club and there's been a real buzz about the place this season. Staying at the hotel so close the ground, you often spot the players and staff in and around the stadium and you can tell from the look on their faces that they are excited to be a part of the club this season.

"We met Kevin McCabe at the hotel recently and he was very friendly and was genuinely interested in hearing about, and improving, our match going experience as disabled supporters.

"The hotel has become something of a good luck charm. Hopefully by the time we're back at the Copthorne Hotel next season we'll be watching our team in the Premiership. Now we've just got to book our hotel for Wembley."
