Richard's first season with the club, when he scored 14 goals in 30 appearances, was one of the major reasons why he was offered a three-year deal in the summer of 2010 and he followed fellow Yorkshiremen Nick Montgomery and Chris Morgan in committing himself to the club.
He began his career with York City and has had spells with Sheffield Wednesday, Leicester City, Preston North End and Leeds United before signing for Stoke in 2007 and helping them into the Premier League, scoring a total of 11 goals in their promotion season. Richard adds versatility as he can operate in a central role or down either flank.
