Club Captain and inspirational leader, Chris agreed a new three-year contract in the summer of 2010, much to the delight of the fans, but was ruled out for the majority of the campaign with a cruciate knee ligament injury.
He is known throughout English football as a tough, uncompromising and committed central defender, whilst his leadership skills, both on and off the pitch, made him the obvious choice to succeed Robert Page as captain a year after signing in 2003.
He skippered United's promotion and then impressed in the Premiership and now is closing in on 500 career appearances with Barnsley and the Blades - his only two clubs.
