In his two seasons with the club, Gary has shored up the left side of United's defence with his consistent displays but suffered a serious cruciate ligament problem at the end of the 2008/09 campaign. A Scottish international with more than 40 caps to his name, he cost the Blades £1m from Everton in the summer of 2007 and also recommended the Club to James Beattie. He began his career with Hearts, making his debut as a 17-year-old and also helped the Jamtarts to the Scottish Cup. He was also named Scottish PFA Young Player of the Year and was a full international before moving south in October 2000.
